About Teacher

 

      Pianist Meng Yang has concertized widely in New York at different venues such as Steinway Hall, Provincetown Playhouse, Black Box Theatre, and Tenri Cultural Institute. The wide repertoire includes works ranging from Baroque to contemporary, and many cultures. Her interest in new music and composition has drawn her to the works of emerging composers. Meng has performed in Composers Now Festival and Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy. She has also premiered new piece from young composer in Pulsing and Shaking Festival and participated multiple times as a composer with Youth Music Festival. Her own composition “Bee” has been included in “Youth Music Festival Album”. Meng appeared as soloist and accompanist for presenting new works from Christine Lee and Rory Fewer in album “Common Time”.

 

      She Began piano study at very young age and entered the Affiliated Junior/High School of Sichuan Conservatory on full scholarship, where she worked with Prof. Hanguo Yang. During the time of study in her hometown, Chengdu, Sichuan, she was awarded the First Prize of Sichuan Province Young Artists Festival. She was frequently honored for President, Dean’s List and awarded Benno Lee Prize in City University of New York, Hunter College where she gained her bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and completed her master's degree in Piano Performance at New York University.

 

      Meng is tremendously enthusiastic about piano teaching and obtained her second master’s degree in Music Education at NYU where she also taught piano for music/non-music major as an adjunct instructor. Meng is certified with NYS music teacher license PreK-12. She also works as a piano curriculum designer and has been selected as Steinway & Sons Educational Partner.
